Treatment of cataract

Cataract is treated through surgery and prescription eyeglasses. When the cataract aren’t hindering life in a major way, eye glasses are sufficient. Although when cataract have covered a major portion of the eye(s) and disrupt the vision in a major way, surgery is performed.

What is Micro Incision Cataract Surgery (MICS)?

MICS is a procedure through which cataract is treated. An incision is made of the size between 1 mm to 2 mm. A probe of the size 0.9 mm is inserted into the eye. Using ultrasound energy, the cataract is liquefied and taken out through the probe. A covering of silicon sleeve is present around the probe that allows a cold balanced salt solution (BSS) to enter into the eye for aiding in protection and maintenance of the temperature of the eye.
